Welcome to our Delicious Fish & Chip trail, which we hope will inspire you to take a culinary tour of some of the fish and chip shops and restaurants in the county.

Fish and chips are one of our Great British institutions, whether eaten straight from the paper or from a plate, with mushy peas or a nice glass of wine, you can’t beat a good portion of Yorkshire fish and chips.

We believe there are some of the finest fish and chip restaurants and take-aways in the world right here in Yorkshire and while we couldn’t fit them all in, we wanted to give visitors a taste of some of the best places for great fish and chips.

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

Once you’ve had a fish and chip special with the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, they’ll never taste the same again! Travelling in period 50's carriages, hauled by a nostalgic steam or diesel locomotive from the same era, your train will take you for two leisurely trips up and down the branch. Tickets include a complimentary fish and chip supper.

Fisherman's Wife

Situated on Khyber Pass overlooking the sea. The Fisherman’s Wife Fish & Chip/Seafood restaurant has the best views in Whitby. Our 90 seat restaurant overlooks the harbour, a fantastic setting for possibly the best fish & chips in Yorkshire.

Harbour View

Harbour View (previously ‘Mills café’) is the oldest traditional fish & chips restaurant in Whitby, established since1928. Situated beside Whitby’s historical harbour we endeavour to provide our customers with a charming experience along with tasty, fresh seafood Whitby has become famous for. Our menu offers all of the ‘chip shop’ favouritesbattered in our own delicious light,crispy batter.


Quayside is a multi award-winning fish restaurant situated in Whitby, famous the world over for excellent fish & chips. The restaurant, which is situated right on the quay (see the views from our webcam), specialises in traditional Yorkshire fish & chips, fried the traditional way in top quality beef dripping, and using our own special-recipe batter.

5The Old Hall Inn

Situated in the heart of Wharfedale the Old Hall Inn offers a warm welcoming atmosphere with a fantastic log fire for when the weather is chilly, with fabulous food served all day every day. All ingredients are sourced as locally as possible. Our freshly battered fish & chips with home made Tartare sauce and mushy peas is one of the most popular dishes on our menu.

A friendly, family business, Big Catch offers first class Fish and Chips with a smile! Situated in the idyllic, spa town of Ilkley, Big Catch is an ideal stop for hungry shoppers or day-trippers enjoying a stroll by the river. Offering a take-away and café it is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy some of Yorkshire’s finest Fish and Chips with a good old Yorkshire cuppa.

7Ship Inn

A traditional pub located on the cliff top next to Sewerby Hall and Gardens. Serving Great Food with the East Coast Best Carvery on a Sunday and a Fine “Fish ‘n’ Ship” Menu serving Local Seafood and the Awesome Freshly Battered Fish and Chips served with award winning Ales, Beers and Fine Wines. The Ship Inn has a Children’s Play Area and Large Car Park that ebbs down to the Cliff Tops.

8Cat Nab Fish Bar

Family owned Fish & Chip Restaurant and take away, prominently situated in an idyllic victorian seaside resort.Serving premium cod and haddock, traditional fishcakes and homemade fish patties are a speciality. Childrens meals and O.A.P. specials are at a discount price. Delicious ice-cream sundaes and desserts are available from our ajoining ice-cream parlour.

Overlooking the harbour and south bay, the family owned and run Welcome Inn has been serving an extensive menu for over 20 years. We only use the finest locally sourced produce. A warm welcome awaits.

Blakeley’s have gained a strong reputation for good quality fish and chips complimented with a friendly and warm service. 12The Cavendish Pavilion

Situated in the heart of the Bolton Abbey Estate, the Cavendish Pavilion is the perfect riverside venue for refreshments and a bite to eat; serving heart-warming dishes including delicious, home cooked fish & chips. The Cavendish Pavilion was opened in 1890 and it very much resembles a Victorian style station building. Seating is available both inside and out, with canopy sheltered tables outside for dog walkers and bikers.

The Devonshire Hotel situated in the heart of Grassington's picturesque cobbled square provides an idyllic location to dine or drink. Allow your tastebuds to revel in our crispy beer battered fish served with chunky handcut chips, mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce. Or sample the best of both worlds as The Devonshire Hotel prides itself on serving and using local cask ales in our mouth watering batter.

14Golden Grid Fish Restaurant

No trip to Scarborough is complete without a visit to the iconic Golden Grid Fish Restaurant, featured in ‘SundayTimes Travel 2010’. Tuck into delicious fish & chips, fresh seafood and grills whilst enjoying the stunning harbour views. Homemade specials are prepared daily using the best of local produce. It’s clear the owners of family run, fully licensed restaurant & takeaway, The Cove in Otley, have gone to great lengths to make this one of the best fish & chip restaurants and takeaways inYorkshire. Their delicious menu achieved the NFFF 5 Star Quality Award in July 2012. The Cove prides itself on using only the highest quality ingredients and all fish is from a sustainable source.The Cove is proud to have expanded with a new takeaway on Station Road.
